Decorating living room 12ft by 12ft
My living room is about 12ft by 12ft. The furniture that is in it has either been given to me or I have purchased it. I am not picky about my furniture because it is one of my first apartments and I don’t see the point in spending a lot of money on furniture unless it is for comfort.
There is one off white couch that can seat about three people comfortable. I purchased it in a used furniture store, where in its previously life, it was rented. I am unaware of the brand, but I chose it because it was comfortable, wasn’t ugly (it was plain), and was a good price (about $199).
The color does get dirty easily, but the off white can match just about anything and you can add all sorts of throw pillows to jazz it up. There is also a brown coffee table that was given to me by my sister. It is fake wood, but it gets the job done.
I use it to put my feet up on when I’m sitting on the couch, or to put my lab top on it. I plan to pant it black one day to match the other things in the living room. The TV stand, fish tank stand and book case are all black.
The TV stand was purchased at Wal-Mart for about $20 bucks. It stands about two feet off the ground and hold a 36 inch flat screen TV (which was bought by my boyfriend’s parents). It also has a shelf on each side that can hold the DVD player and a Wii.
There was no thought behind the color, it was more for the price and the fact that it does the job of holding the TV. The book shelf is about 7 feet tall and has about five shelves. It is also black and was given to me by my mother. It holds books, laptop printer, and tickets from various vacations, such as a beer stein from Germany.
There is also a 20 gallon fresh water fish tank that sits on a black metal stand. The stand is about 2.5 feet off the ground and three feet long and is big enough to hold the tank. It has two shelves below where I store all the fish products such as food.
I did choose for the color to be black since the consensus of furniture turned out to be black. It was purchased at Target for about $30 dollars and was bought for its functionality and price. All of the furniture save the couch can easily be transported because they can all be broken down and taken apart.
I advise anyone who will be buying furniture for first time living, think about the future (like is it a temporary situation or more permanent). Being able to move your furniture from place to place is important if you are someone like me who rents apartments from year to year.
When purchasing shared furniture, I would recommend that it is clear as to who will take on the item once you part ways. One way to do this is if everyone has paid equal amounts for the item, put all the names in a hat and draw an owner.
