My home office furniture needs to hold a lot, but not take up much space

I live in a small New York apartment, thus my home office furniture needs to hold a lot, but not take up much space.

What I use for my home office is a computer armoire originally from the store Hold Everything that I purchased from its original owner on Craigslist.

It is espresso colored, 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide. A very simple design with clean lines.

The inside of the left door of the armoire has a cork bulletin board and three compartments that are large enough to hold CDs, mail, business cards and the like.

Inside the right door is a white board with a marker holder, and two compartments large enough to hold hanging files.

The armoire can hold a very large computer monitor and other devices in the main area with a pull-out rolling keyboard shelf attached.

If you have a tower, it can be placed next to the monitor or the space underneath the keyboard. Above the monitor area are multiple compartments: a shelf large enough to hold a ream of paper and a drawer below that is just as large.

Next to that are four 3 inch wide compartments that are a foot and a half long. Ideal for sorting mail, electronics or anything else you might want to sort. Read more »

I purchased a computer desk from Dollar General about six months ago

I purchased a computer desk from Dollar General about six months ago. I chose this piece because I am in college and needed something cheap and something to do homework on with my laptop.

I also have limited space in my sunroom, so it needed to be slim. I don’t believe I would choose the same thing again. Even though it was only twenty dollars, I would rather have something with more space.

I put it together myself and it was a hassle! I did feel a sense of accomplishment having done it myself without screaming for my boyfriends help.

The desk has a little drawer and 2 little shelves underneath the drawer. I don’t have a chair since they were too expensive, so I just use my dining room chair when I’m sitting at it. Read more »

In my home office I have a glass-top desk

In my home office I have a glass-top desk, which I purchased from Plummer’s about eight years ago. The frame is black metal tubing. I like the glass surface because it is easy to clean and it makes the desk seem smaller and lighter, so it doesn’t give the impression of dominating or crowding the room the way a wooden or metal desk does.

I have three short drawer units that sit under the desk in the same position that built-in drawers would take. I think I got them at Target. They are on wheels, so I can pull them out for easy access if I need to.

They are black to match the desk’s framework. I also have an ordinary four-drawer file cabinet. It’s a dark tan color. I’ve had it for over 20 years, purchased at some office supply tore, and it is still in good condition. I use a magnet clip to attach my wall calendar to the side of the file cabinet.

I need a lot of shelving for books and various work materials. For that I use bookcases that I bought from IKEA. They have a dark brown wood veneer. I had to put them together myself, but it wasn’t very difficult. I like the fact that I can adjust the height of the shelves as my needs change. Read more »

My main piece of home office furniture is a desk that was made by my husband

My main piece of office furniture is a desk that was made by my husband. We looked at several office supply stores for ideas and then he made me an 8′ “L” shaped desk with two deep single drawers on each end of the “L”.

I wanted a lot if space so I didn’t have to constantly move things about when working on a project.

I also purchased a four-drawer (HON) gray filing cabinet that had been discounted over 70% due to dents at the top edge during shipment.

My chair is a swivel receptionist chair that does not stay lifted to the correct height and I’m waiting to find a better one at a thrift store or one that is deeply discounted at any local store that I happen to wander in. Read more »
