We found a set of cushioned teak lounges that fit the space on our perfectly
After finally completing our screened porch, we began the great and nearly endless search for the perfect patio lounge furniture.
Like Goldilocks, either everything we found was ‘too cold’ or ‘too hard’.
It was ‘too modern’ or ‘too old fashioned’ – nothing was right. Finally, after nearly 6 months of shopping we found it.
We found a set of cushioned teak lounges that fit the space on our perfectly.
They were incredibly comfortable – so much so that more often than not – our reading sessions turned into light, but blissful naps.
Now we spend our evenings and weekends looking out over my wives lovely garden.
A hummingbird feeder placed in front of our lounge chairs brings a few remarkable moments each day.
They are remarkable creatures – hovering, suspended over the bright red petals of the feeder. The porch, the lounges, the garden – are so peaceful, we find ourselves travelling less.
Why go anywhere else, when we can have such comfort at home. But it did come so easy. Both the lounges, and the matching teak table and chairs – all had to be assembled!
We spent hours in the dim light of the driveway, drilling, gluing, hammering, holding – occasionally swearing, undoing and redoing.
Somewhere there is a special level of purgatory for all those who write ambiguous, if not outright misleading, assembly instructions. Perhaps they are destined to each day assemble items with critical missing parts?
Perhaps they must dial help lines that are never answered, and somehow, know the musak that you most despise?
Perpetual and painful operettas anyone? Anyway, we finally got the furniture together and hauled onto the porch with the help of our son. And it was worth it.
Countless hours of reading, hummingbird watching, watching the garden transform itself each year from barren to abundant, and yes, occasionally napping.
